Cork's Weekly
Newsletter
January 17
2008 |
Welcome to Cork’s
weekly newsletter.
There is so much stuff going on here I’m not sure where
to start. I guess I have to begin with the 17-O New
England Patriots who are just
1 win away from their 4th Super Bowl in 7 years.
This leads us to
our Super Brew III Beer tasting which is Saturday,
February 2nd from 2 to 5 PM. We are adding new beers
every day and should top out
over 100 beers for the tasting. Be sure to check outthe
website (corksfinewine.com) for details and updates.
While we are on the subject of beer I need to pass on
some bad news in the beer world. There is currently a
worldwide shortage of hops. This in addition to fuel
charges, inflation, and the yearly post Super Bowl price
increase, beer prices are going to drastically rise in
the next year. We will try to keep prices as low as
possible but micros (especially the hoppier brews) have
already taken large cost increases. If your favorite
microbrew has not gone up yet, it will in the very near
future so you might want to stock up.
Well all this beer
talk has me thirsty and heck it is Thursday so let’s do
a beer tasting. We don’t have one scheduled so it looks
like we will pull Mr. Wallace off the bench to sample
you on some new brews. He will start with 2 beers from
Abita, Purple Haze Raspberry Wheat Beer and Turbodog.
Next up is the winter offering from Shipyard called
Prelude. We will finish with Brooklyn Brewery’s Black
Chocolate Stout. So stop by between 4:30 and 7:30 and
try some new brews.
We will take this week off from the Friday night wine
tastings. It is just very slow this time of year and we
will probably do every other week for awhile although as
most of you know I am here on Friday nights and can
easily be
convinced to open a bottle if there is something you
would like to try. We have also picked out the date for
our 3rd or 4th whatever we are up to "Spring Wine
Tasting".
For those who don’t know, Easter is wicked early this
year (March 23rd) so we will have the tasting on
Wednesday, March 12th from 5 to 8 PM. It will be over
100 wines and I will update you on the e-mails and on
the website as the event draws closer.
I have a favor to ask our regular customers. As most of
you know, we havebeen
attempting to get our full liquor license almost since
the day the store opened. We have applied to the town
and there will be a hearing next Wednesday on our
application. If we get the full license it will allow us
to sell distilled spirits and be able to better serve
you, our customers. This is also very important to the
long-term future and growth for us at Cork’s. For those
of you with a few minutes to spare if you could e-mail
me back a very brief letter of support as to why we
would be a good candidate for the license it would be
greatly appreciated. We will also havea petition by the
register that we ask you to sign when youstop by in the
next week.
I thank you in advance for your support.
