I
hope everybody had a great Easter. It was good to see a
lot of you here at Cork’s loading up for the holiday.
I’m sure a few of you diehards like me got up at 6 AM to
see the Sox split the season openin g series in Japan.
Round 2 of March Madness kicks off tonight, and the
Celtics have to be the favorites to win their 17th
title.
Speaking of the Sox we mentioned the Redsox wines in the
last newsletter, arriving next week from Wachusett
Brewing Co. is Green Monsta Pale Ale. We will taste that
and a few of the other excellent Wachusett brews on a
special tasting during the 1st Sox vs. Yankees series on
Saturday April 12th from 1 to 3:30. Game is at 4 so you
have plenty of time to bring your Monsta 6-pk home and
watch the Sox spank the evil empire.
While we’re on the Sox and Japan let’s taste some beers
from the far east tonight (Thursday from 4:30 to 7:30).
Our Asian expert Mr. Wallace will sample you on Sapporo
from Japan, Singha from Thailand, Tsingtao from China,
and Tiger from Asia. Did you know that around Tokyo they
actually have beer vending machines all over the place?
I somehow can’t see that happening in the Boston area.
Hmmmm…I want to keep the wine tastings going as well but
I don’t have any vendors or ideas so hang on as I browse
the section for inspiration. OK, I’m back with a
hodgepodge of interesting wines for different reasons.
1st up is Yellow Tail Sparkling Wine. I’ve yet to try it
and I’m not expecting a heck of a lot but we sell
boatloads of Yellowtail so let’s keep an open mind and
give it a try. Next up is Montinore Semi-dry Riesling. I
visited them in Oregon, super people, excellent wines
that I will continue to support. Tres Picos Garnacha
from Spain will be next. We had a Garnacha last week and
I want to compare this 1 that has received excellent
press to it. Forchini Beausierra is a Bordeux style wine
from Sonoma and will be next. Last but not least will be
Fourplay Rosso which I brought in for a customer and
just have to try. It is from Sicily and the label says
it’s a blend of 4 native white grapes. Huh?...and it’s
called a Rosso? Hmmmm… So be sure to stop by Friday
night from 4 to 7 PM and sample this eclectic mix of
wines.
