Welcome to Cork’s weekly newsletter!
June 11, 2009
Well I’m back from my Midwest trip and I brought
lots of yummy, crazy cheeses for this Friday’s wine
tasting! I hear things were pretty busy and wild
last week with the Phish concert. The concert
season is in full swing with 3 more shows coming up
including Aerosmith and the Dropkick Murphy’s next
Tuesday. Let’s see what else has been going on…The
Sox beat the Yankees again…7-0 this season…wooohooo!!…the
Lakers got beat...always a good thing…and the
Militia look to cap off a perfect season and get
ready for the playoffs.
We have our pal Bud from Atlantic Brewing here to
sample you on the outstanding beers from Stone
Brewing Co. tonight (Thursday) from 4:30 to 7:30.
He will have the IPA, Ruination IPA, Levitation,
Arrogant Bastard, Smoked Porter, and Imperial
Russian Stout for you to try. Speaking of Bud, and
tastings, he set me up for a tour at Lakefront
Brewery out in Milwaukee on Tuesday afternoon.
Between wineries and breweries I’ve probably toured
well over 50 of them, and this was the most fun I’ve
ever had on a tour. It’s owned by two brothers...1
being the nerdy brewer and the other one…well...kind
of a cross between a comedian and a drunk. For
starters they give you a 12 oz. cup, and 4 tokens
for what they say entitles you to a 6 0Z sample.
Well they pretty much fill the glass all the way up,
and ½ way through the tour he says beer break, this
one is on me! He downed at least 3 bottles himself
on the tour, and it was his 3rd tour of
the day. 60 ounces of beer later …complete with him
singing and mimicking the entire cast of Lavern and
Shirley this was 1 fun tour. I strongly recommend
checking them out if you’re ever in the area… (http://www.lakefrontbrewery.com/tour.html)
This is a few video clips of Jim’s tour. We
currently only carry their New Grist Gluten Free
Beer, and the seasonal Pumpkin Ale but we will be
bringing in more in the very near future.
Tommy Bolini will be taking his traveling show to
Cork’s this Friday night from 4 to 7 PM. He will be
featuring the delicious wines from Wild Horse out of
Paso Robles. He will have the Chardonnay, the
always highly rated Pinot Noir, and the Cabernet
Sauvignon for you to taste. He will start the
proceedings with Louis Bouillot Cremante de
Bourgogne Grand Reserve. This is an excellent
sparkling wine that I would put up against some of
the better Champagnes out there, yet is only $16.99
per bottle. He will finish the tasting with a
Strawberry Rhubarb Wine from Nashoba Valley
Winery…hmmm I wonder if that pairs well with the
funky Wisconsin cheeses I’m going to bring for the
tasting. I guess you’ll have to come and find out!
