Welcome to Cork’s weekly newsletter.  Well this is may be 1 of the more interesting weeks for the local pro teams.  You have the Bruins and Celtics starting their playoff runs…the Sox heading back to Fenway for Patriots Day weekend games…and the Patriots getting ready for next weeks NFL draft.  And let’s not forget the Boston Marathon on Monday either.  Sounds like plenty of opportunities to crack open your favorite beer, pop open a bottle of Vino, or mix up your favorite cocktail.

Unfortunately, we’ve had to postpone this weeks “Taste like Belgian” beer tasting with Miguel.  He will be out of state and we’re still a bit shorthanded here and don’t have anybody in-house to do the tasting.  We are still looking for part-time stock people and cashiers, so if you know anybody 21 plus send them down.  Don’t forget we have the owner of Pretty Things here for a special beer tasting next Thursday from 4:30 to 7 PM.

Making his debut in the back on Friday night (4:30 to 7) is Mike from Hangtime Wines.  He will start you off with Kats new favorite wine, Sunday Mtn. Sauvignon Blanc.  This is a delicious Marlborough SB that is a buck or 2 cheaper than all the others from the area.  Shannon Ridge Chardonnay will be next, and this Lake County Chard is always getting great press.  La Riata from JK Estates is an interesting blend of Sangiovese, Dolcetto, and Barbera all grown in Lodi, CA by a local kid out of North Attleboro….go figure!

Next up is 1 of Ted the Wine dog’s picks…Stray Dog Zinfandel also from Lodi and JK Estates.  Le Sciare Primitivo will be an interesting contrast in that it is also a Zinfandel…but an “Old World” style from Italy.  Last but not least is Fuso Barbera. This wine comes from 45 year old wild vines, and has the distinction of not having a front label at all.  I was going to send it back, thinking the winery made a mistake.  But apparently it was intentional…good thing the juice is outstanding.  Have a great weekend.

Robert
